An Overture
Oberammergau is a small (few-thousand-resident) Ammergau Alps village world-famous for two things: the Passion Play, staged roughly every ten years since 1634, and its exceptional Lüftlmalerei — painted house façades depicting biblical scenes and fairy tales (Little Red Riding Hood, Hansel & Gretel). Combined with the neighbouring Baroque Ettal Abbey, it makes a peaceful, central base between Garmisch, Linderhof and Füssen.
