- By car: ~3 hrs from Garmisch, ~45 min from Würzburg; easy parking lots ring the walls (the centre is largely pedestrian).
- By train (car-free): No direct mainline station — connect via Steinach on a short branch line; from Würzburg it's ~1 hr with one change. Walkable from Rothenburg's station into the old town.
- Around town: Entirely on foot.
