Bächle (Street Water Channels)

Schlossberg (Castle Hill)
The hill above the old town offers the best city views. Accessible via funicular or a 20-minute uphill walk. Features a beer garden, wooded walking paths, and the ruined city walls. The funicular operates daily and costs a few euros.
Whale House (Haus zum Walfisch)
A striking 16th-century Gothic mansion with a vivid red exterior and distinctive black-and-white oriel windows. Located in the Old Town. Erasmus of Rotterdam lived here briefly in 1529.
Archaeological Museum Colombischlössle
Roman-era finds and regional prehistory housed in a neoclassical villa. One of the more substantive museum experiences in the city for history-minded travelers.

City history museum in a Renaissance merchant hall — compact, well-curated overview of Freiburg's medieval and modern story.

Craft Beer Scene

- By train: Direct ICE/IC services from Frankfurt (~2 hrs), Basel (~45 min), Zurich (~1.5 hrs), Stuttgart (~1.5 hrs). Freiburg Hauptbahnhof is 5 min walk from the old town.
