An Overture
Offenburg is the principal western gateway city to the Black Forest — a medium-sized regional center of 60,000 inhabitants on the Rhine plain where the A5 motorway and main rail lines converge, providing the best transport connections into the central and northern Black Forest. It sits at the mouth of the Kinzig Valley (the main river corridor into the region's heart), connecting directly to Schiltach, Triberg, and the Black Forest Railway. - Major rail junction: ICE and IC trains stop here on the main Freiburg–Karlsruhe–Frankfurt line.
