An Overture
Scilla is a dramatic fishing town near the Strait of Messina (the mythological lair of the monster Scylla), where pastel houses stack up a headland crowned by the Castello Ruffo. Its great draw is Chianalea, the "little Venice" fishing quarter where house-fronts rise straight from the water, and its swordfish sandwiches. Split into three parts — Marina Grande (the beach), San Giorgio (the upper town), and Chianalea — it's an easy rail-accessible stop on the Costa Viola with views across to Sicily and Etna.
