An Overture
Vieste is the whitewashed clifftop town at the tip of the Gargano Peninsula — the mountainous "spur" of Italy's boot in northern Puglia. It combines dramatic white sea cliffs, sea stacks (the Pizzomunno monolith), grottoes, and some of the Adriatic's best beaches with the wooded interior of the Foresta Umbra and the offshore Tremiti Islands. Far from the trulli-and-Salento circuit, the Gargano is a beach-and-boat base reached by a longer drive but rewarded with comparatively wild, less-international scenery.

- Car effectively required: Vieste is ~250 km / ~4 hours from Alberobello and is poorly served by public transport; approach via the coast (stopping at Trani / Monte Sant'Angelo).
- Car-free options: Seasonal Ferrovie del Gargano buses/trains connect Vieste, Peschici and Monte Sant'Angelo; ferries reach the Tremiti from Vieste/Peschici — but services thin out off-season.
