An Overture
Adelboden is a quiet, chalet-built mountain village at the head of the Engstligen valley in the Bernese Oberland — a ski resort in winter and a hiking-and-waterfall base in summer, prized as a calmer, more romantic alternative to busy Interlaken. Engstligen Falls & Engstligenalp
From the valley base at Unter dem Birg a steep path (or the cable car) climbs alongside the two-tier Engstligen Falls — among Switzerland's highest, dropping some 600 m over the cliff — to the Engstligenalp, a vast UNESCO-listed high plateau ringed by peaks where cows graze and gentle loop trails fan out.

Sillerenbühl → Hahnenmoos Pass
An easy high panorama walk along the open ridge from the top of the Silleren cable car to the Hahnenmoos pass, with the Wildstrubel, Lohner and the whole Engstligen basin laid out — a flowery, family-friendly balcony trail with mountain huts for the view.

Blausee
A tiny, intensely turquoise forest lake with a submerged statue and trout pools (~11 CHF); magical with snow on the trees in late autumn.
Getting there: PostBus to Frutigen (~25 min), then a short train/bus to Blausee-Mitholz; ~35–55 min total.

Getting There & Around
- Getting there (no car): Train to Frutigen, then PostBus up to Adelboden (the village is a road-served valley head).
- Getting there (with car): ~50 min / 48 km from Interlaken, ~2.5 hr from Zermatt-area (via Täsch); the village and its lifts have parking — easier than the car-free resorts.
- Getting around: Local cable cars (Tschentenbahn, Engstligen) and PostBuses; a car is genuinely useful here for Blausee, Kandersteg and lake day trips.

- This is a road-tripper's base — car access and parking are easy, and it sits within striking distance of Blausee, Oeschinensee, the lakes and the Jungfrau sights.
- For winter visits, be prepared for snow driving (winter tyres/chains); the giant swing and falls are summer attractions.
