An Overture

Valle Verzasca — Lavertezzo to Brione
The emerald-river valley walk. Starting at Lavertezzo, it crosses the famous Ponte dei Salti double-arch Roman-style bridge over the clearest green pools in the Alps, then follows the riverside Sentiero Verzasca ethnographic path through chestnut woods and stone hamlets up to Brione. Swimming holes the whole way; go early in summer.

- Getting there (no car): Trains via Bellinzona on the Gotthard axis (from Zurich/Lucerne ~2.5–3 hr); the scenic Centovalli Railway links Locarno to Domodossola (Italy) through chestnut gorges.
- Getting there (with car): A2/A13 to Bellinzona then to the lake; narrower, busier Ticino roads with a faster local driving style.
- Getting around: Walkable lakefronts plus the Madonna del Sasso funicular and Cardada cable car; PostBuses serve the Verzasca and Maggia valleys, but a car gives the most freedom there.
