Getting There Without a Car
- From Vienna: Railjet to Attnang-Puchheim then the scenic regional line to Hallstatt station — which sits on the opposite shore, so the final leg is a short ferry crossing timed to arriving trains (one of Europe's great arrivals).
- From Salzburg: Bus 150 to Bad Ischl then train or bus onward (~2–2.5 hours total).
- From Prague: 6–7 hours (Earth Trekkers) — do not attempt it as a day trip.
With a Car
- Distances: ~2–2.5 hours from Český Krumlov, ~3.5 hours from Vienna (Austrian vignette required).
- Parking: The village core is closed to visitor traffic: park in the numbered lots (P1/P2) south of the center — they fill by mid-morning in season and are charged at deterrent rates.
Getting Around
- On foot: Entirely; the funicular and the Obertraun cable car handle the vertical.
