An Overture

Getting There Without a Car
- From Vienna: Direct Railjet trains take ~2.5–3 hours; leave early to bank a half day on arrival (The Geographical Cure).
- To Budapest: High-speed train runs ~5 hours — The Geographical Cure schedules it as an afternoon/evening travel leg.
- Arriving: The station is a 15–20-minute walk or short trolleybus ride from the Altstadt.
With a Car
- From Vienna: ~3 hours on the A1 (Austrian vignette required; morning departure per the sun warning).
- Parking: The Altstadt is pedestrianized — park in the garages bored into the Mönchsberg.
Getting Around
- On foot: Entirely walkable; the fortress funicular handles the only real climb.
